SHPE San Diego is celebrating its 31st Annual Awards Banquet this year and we want to see you there! Join us as we celebrate SHPE San Diego’s accomplishments, honor our student chapters’ graduating seniors, announce our scholarship winners, recognize new professional lifetime members, install our new executive board members, and celebrate with our SHPE familia. This year we will be changing up our multimedia presentations and we know you are going to like it!

Late ticket purchases will be available until April 30th (or until we sell out) at $65 for professionals and $45 for students so get you tickets now!

Our Mistress of Ceremonies will be Meteorologist Sabrina Fein from San Diego 6 News.

Our Keynote Speaker will be Gilbert Amengual, Director of Marketing and Product Strategy at Solar Turbines.

Unity is something special, and SHPE San Diego is unified.  Never has an expression been truer than Tuesday evening’s social networking event for SHPE San Diego, which was a huge success.  The mixer took place at Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in La Jolla, CA.  A mix of students and professionals, no matter what part of the career they were in, gathered and took a moment to reflect what has grown into a powerhouse in Region 2.  For the college members, it was an opportunity to rub elbows with some of San Diego’s top Engineers and feel like a professional.  For the professional members, it was an opportunity to be a role model and take a look at the next generation…the future of SHPE San Diego.  Introductions took place, and contact information was exchanged.  The future looks bright for San Diego, and besides, who said Engineers can’t have fun?  As proud as the executive board was, the next event can’t come soon enough.

This year SHPE SD will be voting on approving changes to the Professional Chapter Bylaws as wells as all 5 executive board member positions. Our nomination and election process will be online this year.  Read on to learn more about nominating individuals, running for a position, voting on bylaws changes, and the voting process.

• The President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer positions are all open for elections this year.
  • Nominations are currently open and will be accepted until April 19th 11: 59 PM.
  • Send nominations to shpe-sd@shpesd.org and make sure to CC the nominated individual.  Please begin the email subject with “[2013-nomination]“.
  • Executive Board Member position responsibilities are up for review on the Executive Board Position Descriptions page.
  • Nominated individuals must accept their nominations and provide a brief bio by April 19th 11:59 PM so that we may display them on our website as well as the voting ballots.
• SHPE SD’s voting will be online through the same service SHPE Inc. uses for our national elections.
  • Eligible voting members will be able to vote between April 21st to April 30th 11:59 PM.
• Candidates will be able to give a speech at the April GBM on Wednesday, April 24th.
  • These short speeches may include a brief bio, candidate’s involvement with SHPE, and their plans to enhance the chapter through their position on the board.
• We will announce the election results and install the new board at the 31st Annual Awards Banquet.

Remember that you must have paid your SHPE Inc. membership dues by April 24th to cast a vote.
